*Beating Rare Atom in the PGL Astana Closed Qualifier could hurt the China subregion in the lead-up
Beating Rare Atom in the PGL Astana Closed Qualifier could hurt the China subregion in the lead-up to the Major.
10:41 Lynn Vision forfeit the Rare Atom match
Lynn Vision have now forfeited the match, which sees Rare Atom advance to the grand final of the qualifier and gain points for the forfeit victory. The two sides might face off again, though, should Lynn Vision win the consolidation final.
Original story:
Lynn Vision brought up a dilemma they will have as they face off on Saturday, March 29, against the highest-ranked Chinese team in the VRS, Rare Atom, in the PGL Astana Closed Qualifier.

The issue raised concerns with the Asia MRQ, which is subdivided into three regions, but four spots are up for grabs. The fourth spot will go to the region with the second-best Asian team behind The MongolZ, who are in the top spot and will go through directly to the Major.
As it stands, Rare Atom are second in Asia in the race for the Major, but were Lynn Vision to beat them, it would allow teams from other Asian regions hot in pursuit to gain on the Chinese squad and maybe even surpass them, which would make the China MRQ lose the coveted second Major spot.
"If we win, China will only get 1 Major slot, we lose may be seeing [sic] as match fixing," Lynn Vision wrote on a post on X, before stating the importance of sticker money for Asian teams.
Lynn Vision's dilemma is one that could harm them in two ways, by missing out on a spot at PGL Astana, or by depriving the region of an extra Major slot, which could very well end up being one they play for in the MRQ if RA do end up second in the Asia VRS. Be as it may, the fact that they could be incentivized to lose if their Major aspirations trump going to PGL Astana exposes a crack in the system.
Also worth noting is that a ranked LAN with $10,000 is coming up on April 1-3 in Mongolia, MESA Pro Series Spring, which could further tilt the scales — or create other similar dilemmas — ahead of the April 7 cutoff.
